Local Flavor Warms the Heart!

Dear Fellow Earthlings,

This morning I was unable to prepare my usual cup of coffee, for I had to be out the door at 5:00 a.m. in order to deliver some very hard-to-procure 1989 and 1990 Ford Probe auto parts to my go-to mechancs so that they could use those parts to effect repairs on one of my Ford Probes...

As I headed for Salem, Oregon with those parts, I noted that a "Brooks & Terry's Espresso" drive-up coffee shack was just opening and that the only one there was Brooks Farnworth (who owns half the interest in this little group of 3 drive-up coffee shops in the Monmouth/Independence/Dallas, Oregon area).

I NEVER go to any of the other, more famous drive-up coffee places that literally litter the area. Also -- since, as a coffee connoisseur, I always choose from my inventory of 15-to-20 bags of "number 4 grind" coffee, the only exception I make is Brooks & Terry's. The main reason for this is that Timm Cable, a dear friend who I have known for roughly 40 years – and the '"Cable Clan" (comprising some 40 people) are so well-known and respected in the area...

Oh, how nice it was to be Brooks' first customer of the day! I ordered a large latté, along with a blueberry muffin. Since no other customers had yet shown up, I asked Brooks if I could linger and speak with him about the Cable clan -- and about our shared interest in sports figures.

For about 10 minutes Brooks and I talked about the sports heroes I have actually met, including Magic Johnson, George Mikan, the "Destroyer", and Sadaharu Oh. Also, Brook, like me, is a Stan Musial fan.

Our wonderful session came to an end when the second customer of the day pulled up to Brooks' stand. I wished that person well, thanked Brooks, and then was on my way to my destination in Salem.

If you are ever in the Monmouth/Independence/Dallas area of Oregon, I urge you to stop by any of Brooks & Terry's places". They are fun, unpretentious, and serve great coffee.
