Earth for All -- All for Earth
Dear Fellow Earthlings,
If the concept of what constitutes a nation is to continue in light of the limitations that must be imposed on each nation of Earth for the common good (that is, for saving Earth's ecosystems for ourselves and our posterity), we need to streamline the ways in which nations interact with one another.
Without resorting to warfare, bullying, intimidation, destruction of ethnic enclaves, or economic choke holding, it IS possible to work out economic arrangements whereby the determination of the intrinsic financial values of clean air, clean water, open spaces, natural regions, and a device-limited atmosphere can lead to a system whereby accounting practices can guide and record international relations and foster world peace.
I shall pointedly refrain from mentioning specific nations in this blog, but it will be easy for the readers to use their imaginations to guess to what political entities I might be referring...
The hypothetical names, Feddo, Upper Jaune,Corlithia, Prayloo, Mepata, and Dissemenia are employed as I refer to 6 nations here.
The scenarios will be described in simple terms so that both international experts in various fields -- and all other people of Earth -- can grasp the picture. To simplify the discussion, I first mention how Feddo (a so-called "economically developed" country) deals with the 5 othercountries
mentioned here.
Feddo is now sending 15 million Epsilons (ε15,000,000 -- Let us assume this equals $15,000,000 -- See Installment 526.) annually to Upper Jaune to preserve 12,950 hectares (50 square miles) of forest. At the end of one year, accounting practices will determine whether Upper Jaune has fulfilled its commitment. If it has not, then no funds will be forthcoming for the second year. So long as Upper Jaune fulfills its end of the agreement, Feddo will continue to send ε15,000,000 to it annually. What Upper Jaune does with the funds need not be micro-managed. Such stipulations would place a damper on Upper Jaune's willingness to continue with the agreement.
Feddo also has an arrangement with Corlithia, whereby the former It places no tariff's on Corlithia-made goods so long as the production of those goods does not use the forced labor of certain exploited ethnicities within Corlithia. Again, if Corlithia abides by this condition, then in the second year of the agreement, Feddo will continue its no-tariff policy for Corlithia-made goods. Should Corlithia actually make conditions worse for its exploited minorities, Feddo shall increase its tariffs -- or even terminate its agreement to export anything from Corlithia.
Regarding Prayloo, its indigenous peoples and the natural areas in which they live are being destroyed not only by deforestation and the removal of minerals from its earth, but also by a huge influx of people from a country far away -- I refer to that nation here as Dissemenia -- who are managing to use less than transparent means to bring waves of immigrants from their country to Prayloo. In this case, Feddo is sending ε20,000,000 per year to Prayloo (along with 500 exerts in various fields) to develop Prayloo's infrastructure, its civil service, its educational system, its ministry of conservation, and its ministry of indigenous peoples' affairs -- and imposing sanctions on Dissemenia as well.
Finally, we see Mapata, an island nation recently ravaged by a volcanic eruption and ensuing tidal wave that have greatly damaged this tiny island nation. Feddo has a pre-existing agreement with Mepata that is already providing ways for the island nation to deal with the rising tides brought on by climate change. Those funds are now going to be supplemented by an extra one-shot ε5,000,000 to go toward Immediate relief for Mepata. These funds are NOT a loan, but a transfer of funds from Feddo to Mepata.
The reader can now extrapolate, knowing that there are roughly 200 nations and similar entities on Earth -- and that all of them must have some degree of interaction with all others. I will choose on final scenario -- that of the arrangement that exists (hypothetically, of course) between Mepata and Corlithia. Ostensibly, the two nations would seem to be on completely different planets. They are thousands of kilometers apart from one another, one is a nation of fewer than 20,000 inhabitants, the other of more than 100,000,000. But what they share is a need for peace, freedom, and a clean Earth. In addition, there must be a feeling of trust and mutual respect between them.
Since Corlithia has huge excesses of financial capital, it has just provided Mepata with a no-strings attached financial transfer of ε500,000,000 and the services of 30 experts in island-reinforcement technology.
Largesse is part and parcel of each and every human or human institution that purports to be an Earthsaver. Trust here is of the utmost. And trust entails the acceptance of verification of that trust! Blind trust can lead to untold horrors. Rather, all trust must be verified.
