Petroleum is Earth's Lifeblood... SO THE BLOODLETTING MUST STOP!

Dear Fellow Earthlings,

It is only on her very surface that Earth teems with life. Earth's core and the thousands of miles between it and her surface appear to have few lifeforms.

Life appears to be confined to the upper layers of Earth's surface, with its oceans and continents. When living things die, they are either eaten by other living things or, over time, turn into oil and coal --chemical substances that humans have learned to "refine" into fossil based fuels.

Now that such fuels are being refined in such huge amounts -- and used in huge amounts, as well -- the wastes that occur as they are either produced or consumed are proliferating. Plastics now fill great areas of the sea and land, while pollutants produced when these products are either produced or consumed are being released in such great quantities into our atmosphere that they are entering our blood streams (through our lungs) -- and are literally killing us by damaging our bodies.

But pollution is not the only danger to life forms. Global warming — another consequence of human industrial activity — is also threatening Earth’s life forms.

Due to the increase in the amount of greenhouse gases in the air (caused by humans as they burn coal and other fossil fuels), long wave radiation in the form of heat that formerly escaped into space is now being trapped in the atmosphere. Much less heat than before is escaping into space. The results engendered by this change in the percentage of such gases found in Earth’s atmosphere are largely responsible for the increase in temperatures of both Earth's atmosphere and her oceans -- a phenomenon that has come to be known as “global warming".

Oil is out of style. It no longer provides security for any country. Earth is overheating due to humans' reliance on fossil fuels. It is time that everybody should acknowledge that cleaner methods to fulfill our needs for electrical power and for fuel should be devised as soon as possible.

We must stop squeezing Mother Earth dry of her petroleum lifeblood. Doing so is not only callous and selfish, but will likely lead to the end of human life (and, perhaps, all life) on Earth.
