Getting "Settled In" for Whatever Was to Come
Dear Fellow Earthlings,
On the 20th of April 1982 we find both the residents of Port Stanley and the "intruders" settling in, knowing that in a few more days the British Task Force will arrive in the Falklands. The residents of Port Stanley, despite the intrusions that were now plaguing them, continued going about the business of living, adjusting as best they could to the many annoyances facing them: preparations for dealing with British "nightime air raids" (falsely predicted by the occupation forces) by blacking out the windows on their homes, following a new 20 kilometers per hour speed limit, seeing expatriate friends off at the highly "secured" Port Stanley Airport, saving water from their baths for the purpose of using it to flush their toilets, seeing to the needs of the elderly in the community in the face of the many restrictions being imposed by the Argentine forces.... Meanwhile, food carts ("mobile kitchens", as the locals referred to them) provided by the Argentine military circulated through Stanley, making sure the lower ranked soldiers were provided with sufficient food.
