Trapped by Occupation and Its Trappings
Dear Fellow Earthlings,
On the 13th day of April 1982 gasoline rationing began for the residents of the Falklands. Now that the Falklands' "population" had swelled from slightly less than 2,000 to approximately 12,000 in just two weeks' time, shortages of everything were appearing. In confiscated government buildings, only Argentine officers could use the inside toilets. The vast majority of the occupying force were obliged to take care of their
"needs" outside. As for the Islanders, they continued trying to hide any items that might put them in compromising situations. Some islanders were having items stolen from their gardens -- and a few of them were forced to leave their homes so that gun emplacements could be installed in nearby areas. The locals were able to contact Britain for only a few minutes a day -- which made the exchanges of greetings and tidings generated during those brief periods all the more precious. ---And the wait for the Task Force's arrival continued...
