Our catch phrase is on its way.

Dear Fellow Earthlings,

At approximately 1:50 p.m. today, as I drove along the scenic road that leads from Monmouth, Oregon to my home, I noted that someone had thrown out a complete door alongside the road. The door had been snapped into 4 pieces. It was so unsightly!

I pulled my car off to the side of the road, got out and loaded the 4 pieces of door into the trunk. I also picked up some 20 or 30 other pieces of litter that were in the immediate area.

Then I headed for a landfill, located some 7 miles south of Monmouth, along Highway 99. There is a minimum dumping fee of $20 for people wishing to dispose of their trash at that landfill.

I asked the woman at the weigh-in area if I might dump my trash for free, since I had picked it up from along the highway and would pay if asked to do so, but would appreciate the chance to get rid of the litter free-of-charge just “this one time” since the pieces of the old door as well as the other odd stuff in the trunk of the car with it were not mine.

The woman consulted a co-worker and they allowed me to dump the stuff at no charge. I thanked the pair heartily as I left the landfill, that load now ready to be covered over.

By the way, I do hope that future advances in recycling technology will allow us to go back into these landfills at some future date and to sort the messes buried in them into substances composed of the constituents contained therein!

Until then, let’s stop littering!!!

(By the way, this story does not end today! Please wait for its continuation, in tomorrow’s blog!)
