Our catch phrase is on its way.
Dear Fellow Earthlings,
The 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 21 or CMP 11), held in Paris, France, has wrapped up today, with representatives from some 196 countries having adopted a deal to curb global warming by reducing carbon emissions. The deal includes provisions whereby “richer nations” will make cash payments to “poorer nations” in exchange for the latter’s foregoing various non-environmentally friendly practices. On the face of it, this 21st annual meeting to deal with climate change looks to have been more successful than previous meetings of its kind. Financial considerations are proving to be a major stumbling block as the resolutions made at the Paris talks are being scrutinized for adoption. The “rich nations” of the world must put the “concept” of financial well-being and stability into perspective.
When I was studying economics back in the 1970s, one of my professors taught me this little “jingle” to help me and my fellow students understand a little bit more about what “money” is:
“Money’s a matter of functioning four --- A Medium, a Measure, a Standard, a Store.”
That professor's words have been lying dormant in my brain since back in those days, but have suddenly kindled a new idea in me. The details of that idea are revealed in tomorrow's installment!
