Our catch phrase is on its way.
Dear Fellow Earthlings,
Today I have decided to share a bit of my past with you. Let’s see what was going on with me exactly 50 years ago today, back on July 10, 1964:
Dear Diary,
Every morning my father forces me and my brother Frank to get up early by screaming out what we will be doing on that day. I am forced to sort scrap metal and go on trash pick-ups – and I hate every minute of it. It is degrading. It is filthy work. I don’t get paid. And all this slavery I perform for boss John Walker just steals my summer from me. No time to date girls, to play baseball, to do anything that I want! My brother Frank and I were forced to accompany “Big Denny” on a job today. “Big Denny” is about 48 years old, stands about 193 centimeters tall. He is constantly talking lewdly and I feel uncomfortable around him, but I have no choice but to go to a place called “Lee & Company” in St. Louis where Frank and I (because we are small) can squeeze into a low-ceilinged room at that company where we shovel all of the dirt we haul to that company off of our truck and into that room. When I got home tonight I called a girl named Karen (I will keep her last name secret.) and asked her to go on a date, but she explained that she already has a boyfriend. This is turning out to be a very bad summer. I cannot wait to go back to school in September! Three months is just too long for a 16-year-old boy to live in slavery!
So many times in my life I have had to do what I HAVE TO do –- and forget about what it is I would really LIKE to do… But I must say that the summer of 1964 was one of the worst periods in my life. I am so happy that here in the year 2014 my life is not so restricted.
