Our catch phrase is on its way.

Dear Fellow Earthlings,

I turned 17 years of age on January 10, 1965. My 17th birthday fell on a Sunday. After I got home from Sunday school on my birthday, I worked on my imaginary country, called “The Relton Republic”. For many years I enjoyed imagining what a nice place the Relton Republic was. The Relton Republic was located on a planet (some trillion light years distance from Earth) that I eventually named “Aison” (pronounced ey as in “day” followed by “san” – with the “a” pronounced as the “o” is pronounced in the American word “hot” – not the England English “o”, by the way.

In my 17th year I was very involved in extracurricular activities: the speech and drama club, Future Teachers of America, and, of course the yearbook staff. I won speech contests and acted in school plays. Also, I began dating.

A major highlight of 1965 is that my high school basketball team the Collinsville Kahoks completed a 30-2 season and captured the Illinois High School Association basketball championship.

In the spring I was named co-editor for the 1966 “Kahokian”, my high school yearbook. Janet Webb was named the other co-editor. I would be very busy my senior year working on the “Kahokian”.

During the summer of 1965 I took a world history class in summer school. Also, I got my first job. I worked in the laundry for a hotel chain called “Howard Johnson’s”. It was nice to not be stuck at home during the summer of 1965!
