Our catch phrase is on its way.

Dear Fellow Earthlings,

Since it is acknowledged that the African elephant is a highly intelligent creature, I feel it is worth the effort to try and establish better contact with the remaining members of this beleaguered community of animals.

This contact must be on two levels.

First of all, it is very important that I should contact the proper people in the following countries, for there are still wild elephants living in these countries:

Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Côte d'Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

Secondly, I should do as much as I can to find out how to communicate interactively with African elephants themselves so that, together with the proper authorities in the above mentioned countries, we can devise ways to provide both for the elephant populations and human populations in those lands.

Anything short of a wholehearted effort to foster improved communication between humans and elephants almost guarantees the extinction of the African elephant within the next 50 years. During the next few weeks I will be looking more deeply into ways for guaranteeing that the African elephant continues to be a member of the Earth’s community of living things.
