Our catch phrase is on its way.
Dear Fellow Earthlings,
(This blog was compiled in the Falklands on 11 August 2013 local time.)
Today’s weather was gorgeous. The air was calm and there was a clear blue sky above. I did a walk up Philomel Street for a bit of cardiovascular training – and the walk exhilarated me. The people here are very nice, greeting me warmly even though we have never met. Although I did not go to church, it felt very much like the Sunday that it is, with peace and happiness and appreciation in the air. What a tonic! I had a taxi take me all the way out to the Mt. Pleasant British Forces base, where I saw the movie “Man of Steel” (about Superman) at their state-of-the-art cinema -- the only cinema in the Falkllands. I talked with a few of the young British military forces people there and thanked them for helping keep the Falklands free. While I watched the movie, the driver took a break somewhere on base and then after the movie was over, we headed back to Stanley. On the way to the base, we had actually encountered snow. That was a surprise for me in that just 20 or so miles away in Stanley it had been such a beautiful sunny day. After the film, the driver drove me down to a port where I saw a British naval vessel up close. After I got back to my hotel, I continued preparations to meet with several people in the conference room at the hotel tomorrow.
