Our catch phrase is on its way.

Dear Fellow Earthlings

(This blog was compiled in the Falklands on 4 August 2013 local time.)

I did a bit of sightseeing today as Ann drove me around the area adjacent to Port Stephens here on West Falkland. The roads here are very rudimentary, but the people drive mostly 4-wheeled drive vehicles, so they get around pretty well.

Ann told me about how the Falklands have changed so much in the years since the Falklands War ended. The huge farms have been divided into farms that, while still very large, are much smaller than before. Also, the population of West Falkland keeps dropping, as young people go off to Stanley or even leave the Falklands entirely in search of a different way of life.

We drove to a place called Albemarle, recently purchased by a family of three who have moved over to West Falkland from East Falkland. I saw Mt. Alice, where British Forces have a radar site manned by about 8 personnel. Then we dropped in on some friends of Ann’s at South Harbour – an Englishwoman named Kerri and her Scottish husband Brian.

Tonight I listened to Falklands radio – and heard my name mentioned in connection with the Falkland Islands Government Air Service (FIGAS) schedule of flights for tomorrow:

“Islander BN" ("Bravo" "November") 2nd flight: Port Stephens departure Mr S. Walker…and Carcass Island arrival Mr Walker”.
