Our catch phrase is on its way.
(This blog was compiled in the Falklands on 28 July 2013 local time.)
Dear Fellow Earthlings,
Paul Hare (another guest at my hotel) and I went into the Camp today in a hired Mitsubishi Shogun. Although Paul is English, he lives in Scotland. He is an economist and has come to the Falklands to verify that the Falkland Islands government have satisfied the European Union conditions to receive EU financial aid.
Paul and I headed out at 8:30 (“half eight”, as they say here) this morning. Our first stop was the Argentine Military Cemetery near Goose Green, where we paid our respects to Argentine combatants killed during the 1982 Falklands War.
Next we went into Goose Green (population 40) and enjoyed lunch at the Galley Café; I had delicious fish ’n chips.
After leaving Goose Breen, we drove along narrow, sometimes deeply rutted roads to the Blue Beach Military Cemetery at San Carlos (a British war cemetery ) to pay our respects to those members of the British Forces killed in the 1982 Falklands War who are buried there.
We saw lots of geese, sheep, cormorants, and a few other animals during the course of our drive. We got back to Stanley at about 5:00 p.m. My chief reason for coming to the Falklands was to honor those who died in the 1982 conflict. I did so today – and with reverence.
