Our catch phrase is on its way.

(This blog was compiled in the Falklands on 27 July 2013 local time.)

Dear Fellow Earthlings,

My third birthday (on January 10, 1951) was spent at 1029 Hollywood Heights Road, just up the hill from the town of Caseyville, Illinois. Yes, I was back in the house I had first lived in when I was born – and had to share that modest dwelling with my grandparents, my father’s 5 siblings, my sister Rosalie, and my parents. Fondly, I remember watching Grandma Lorene stretch out the laced curtains to dry after she had washed and starched them. And I remember seeing Grandpa Joe come home from his construction job day after day, his black metal lunchbox in hand.

My father started his own business (hauling fill dirt for people) – and was able to buy a small house for our family of four – which became a family of five with the birth of my brother Frank in September of 1951. Eager to have a playmate, I tried to put shoes on my infant brother’s feet, mistakenly thinking he would then be able to walk – and be able to play with me…

I had a bit of time to reminisce today as I relaxed at the Malvina House Hotel here in Stanley, the capital of the Falkland Islands. Also, I had plenty of time to organize my Jingles data in anticipation of obtaining data from locals regarding phonological and other linguistic aspects of the English spoken here in the Falklands.
