Dear Fellow Earthlings,

I have been talking a bit with the local people here in the Falklands, and am beginning to get a better idea of what their English is like. It is clearly more “English” than “Australian” or “New Zealander or “American” or “Canadian”! I feel that, since it also has various local coinages, incorporating some of those coinages (such as the expression the camp – which refers to all parts of the Falklands outside of Stanley) into the existing Jingles (which contain linguistic characteristics that reflect English as a world language), I will be able to come up with a nice set of Falklander English Jingles, one that both holds with tradition and one that reflects the Falklander world view. This set of Jingles needs to comprise a modern medium of communication, one that could, say, be used for an Earthwide oriented Falklands English TV station – or for the founding of a World English Learning Center down here in the South Atlantic Ocean. By the way, may I take this occasion to congratulate the Falklanders and other British subjects on the birth of the third in succession to the British throne. William and Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, are now the happy parents of a son (the Prince of Cambridge). Under the newly mandated laws of royal succession, had the newborn prince been a princess, then, for the first time in England’s history, she would have been next in line to the throne -- even if, subsequently, her birth were to be followed by the birth of a male sibling. To my way of thinking, so long as traditions are fluid and can mix a bit with new ideas, then we humans are making progress! This goes not only for royal succession, but also for the traditions here in the Falklands!
