Dear Fellow Earthlings,
For the past couple of days I have been in my hotel room working on the scripts I will be asking Falklanders to read so that I can document their English. This is not easy. I do not wish to give native Falklanders the impression that I am in their country merely to document their dialect. They need to know that I care about their country and hope to see it endure and prosper. On the other hand, if we just talk, 28 days (July 20th through August 16th) is not enough time for me to absorb their dialect fully. I truly need to put their community phonome into a jingles context if I am to learn the essence of their language within the limited number of days I have available to me. So I am carefully preparing paperwork that my native speaker informants can look at in order that they may know what I need from them. After all, without their help, it will be impossible for me to prepare a list of Falkland Islands English Jingles!
