Our catch phrase is on its way.

Dear Fellow Earthlings,

In business, it pays to innovate. Even as the newest, updated, better-than-ever cell phones are being marketed, the next line of cell phones is being developed so that, within a year or so, IT will become “the newest, updated, better-than-ever” cell phone. Here the quest for profit plays a major role in the motivations of the cell phone makers. And then there are the fashion people, the make-up people, the entertainment people, the automakers – all of them are committed to change just for the sake of change – and, ideally not “small change”, but rather big profits. In addition, we have nations, organizations, religious groups, ethnic groups, all seeking change so that their members’ agendas can be pushed forward. If such change hurts no one else, that is one thing. But (especially on an overcrowded Earth) if that change impacts others adversely, then such change must be considered in a wider context than just the immediate goal of those who would insist on their agendas for change. The status quo is often characterized as boring…But a little boredom can be much better than change which causes hurt, destruction, rancor, death, and/or extinction. Before we go too far in pushing our agendas for change, let us all consider not only the consequences of any changes that come about (for our “in-groups” and for “outsiders” -- including non-human living things as well as human living things), but also the moral implications of those agendas for change.
