Our catch phrase is on its way.
Dear Fellow Earthlings,
Some living creatures, such as the algae that comprise “red tide”, the jumping carp
originally from Asia that threaten indigenous American fish species, the raccoon decimating
Japan’s fauna, “super bugs” now gaining footholds in our hospitals, kudzu destroying trees
in the United States, Australian pine (which displaces native species, leading to ecosystem
community breakdown), and Chinese Tallow (capable of invading habitats ranging from
swampy to saline waters, crowding out native species of plants once the tallow becomes
established) -- all of these life forms have turned the tables on humanity and are actually
thriving in new environments to which they were introduced by humans. Sadly, they are
thriving at the expense of many indigenous species, which have no means of saving
themselves from being ravaged – sometimes to extinction – by the introduced flora and
fauna. These invasive species have no natural enemies in the evironments where they have
been introduced by man. The result is loss of biological diversity, the foundation needed for
healthy ecosystems to exist.
Greenpeace, the World Wildlife Fund, and many other organizations and agencies all over
the world are attempting to deal with this situation, but clearly face an uphill battle!!
