Our catch phrase is on its way.

Dear Fellow Earthlings,

By the way, I too, have done nice things – but not only for people. I have also helped plants and animals. For a while I was privileged to have stewardship over 40 acres of land 7 miles west of Greenville, Illinois. I called this piece of Heaven “Welltonia”. The first thing I did after purchasing it was to have it surveyed, with the entire perimeter marked by metal stakes driven into the ground at 100-foot intervals to make sure the perimeter could be readily identified if need be. Along one of the sides of the quarter mile long driveway, I had a white fence erected so that the less than friendly neighbors on that segment of the property line would be able to see exactly where the line was.

I secured the services of a professional forester by the name of William Calvert. For a few years, William helped me by removing such non-native plants as honeysuckle and multi-flora roses. Also I paid excavators to get the pond on Welltonia brought up to speed.

I would have done more for this peaceful paradise, but I just could not afford (financially) to keep the place. I sold it for a handsome profit, but now, five years later, still miss Welltonia terribly. The last time I visited it, the man to whom I had sold it was, among other things, using it as a shooting range – and I noticed the shell casings from the bullets fired were left on the ground…

Welltonia, may God provide for you since I myself cannot! Oh Welltonia, with your wild turkeys, your deer, your box turtles, your native oaks, your elm trees, your morel mushrooms!
