Our catch phrase is on its way.
Dear Fellow Earthlings,
About 20 years ago I was on a fishing trip with a man whom I had met when he became my English conversation student. The day went well and we had caught several fish from his 15-foot boat. The prospect of enjoying dining on freshly caught fish was exciting.
But my excitement turned to disbelief and anger when he hauled in a female red snapper, bloated with eggs. I asked him to release her, for only moments earlier he had said to me: “I just don’t understand it! There used to be so many red snappers in this part of the sea during this time of the year and nowadays I can hardly find any…”
I was shocked as he cut open the fish before my eyes, letting all of the eggs fall onto the deck of the boat. I was very upset and asked to be taken to shore.
To this day I still feel great sadness at the man’s ignorance. Couldn’t he understand that when you destroy a fish’s eggs, those eggs will never develop into fish??
